18 Patients were treated with Human Embryonic Stem Cell injections directly to their eyes.   9 patients suffered from Stargardt’s macular dystrophy and 9 from dry atrophic age-related macular degeneration.  Of the 18 subjects,  10 patients had some sight restored after the stem cell injection to their eyes.  No word in the article of which protocol saw the best or worst improvement in the test but this is still an encouraging result.   While it’s a preliminary test and it’s years from being used as a full time treatment for Macular Degeneration of Stargardt’s Macular Dystrophy, this treatment could help millions of sufferers someday.
